This is from a series of images of Zimbabwean mothers carrying their infants in an mbereko, while going about the normal routines of their day. I worked in Zimbabwe during sabbaticals over a period of five years medically caring for children. I was consistently touched by the quiet grace and dignity of responsibility of the mother's of my patients. These paintings are a tribute to their gentle strength. The women of Zimbabwe have much to balance.
