This painting, "Shumba Hadzi" is from my "Totem" series. Once again, exploring the narrative possibilities of the color cell technique, I was inspired again by the reserved beauty and gentle grace of the mothers of the children I took care of during my medical work in Zimbabwe. The importance of the tribal totems in connecting the generations is closely bound to the child rearing culture of the Shona.
