Qué vida! La Mía?
Qué vida? La Mía!
Qué vida? La Mía? As shown by the different placements of the question marks, each time I study this piece, I get a different mood from her. Sometimes in control, sometimes questioning and sometimes powerless. Given the societal and legal flux over control of her body, if pregnant, does she have to hide herself away to protect herself, or does the state isolate her and take possession of her life while she is pregnant?
For sale individually or as a panel of a triptych entitled, "MetamorForced." This series is an outgrowth of the resurrection of a legal, cultural and medical debate on personal privacy and liberty from the government, once determined as a Constitutional matter for the whole country by the US Supreme Court in Roe v Wade (1973). With the Dodd decision (2022) the Supreme Court wiped out the uniform role and treatment of women who become pregnant and substituted politically drawn state lines for the extent of control and choices over her body and health. In some places we are already seeing the severest of consequences (including death) on women's timely healthcare and medical treatment. How can this be when a woman's fundamental biological being doesn't vary by a political boundary? We demand women to be everything from a pole dancer to the Madonna, shapeshifting and contorting while still being the anchor of our societal structure.
