The Port of Call Series was shot in January 2022 on North Caicos Island and it is an exercise in ABSTRACT REALISM built on the wabi sabi of a section of my model, a ship that has carried many people and goods in the past. Here it is a symbol of the voyages of humanity on a planetary time scale. It has reached its final port of call but the journey for the descendant crew continues on.
The unveiling of this new series as part of the "California Dreaming" show at Gallery House also connects politically as the decisions of the supreme court of the land and the democratic structure of the electoral college continues to increasingly diverge from the majority's view of how society should be. It is important that society try to be responsive to the needs of the minority, but as polarization increases it changes gravitational pulls and tribes begin an exodus to new horizons, desert or aquatic.
These are composites that are built on a single shot sculpted and recombined in different ways in my digital darkroom.
It can be hung solely or as part of the tryptic "Dispersal" with Port of Call 2 and 4 for $2000.
