Meerkat (Cellular Tapestries)

Meerkat is a mirrored pairing of Eve (The Universe Within) which is the seminal piece in my ongoing Cellular Tapestries series. When doubled up like DNA new images spontaneously appear and add another layer of meaning in the work. The appearance of an animal spirit based in the human form connects us deeper to the web of life.

Medicine is now capable of interpreting the universe of all of our stories, from the macro to the micro, in order to reweave treatments to fit our unique cellular makeup. Whether you look out to the farthest stars or into the core of our cells there is an infinity of stories. These tapestries portray how our unique genetic arrangement of all types of cells determine our individual makeup and life story. Michael’s cellular tapestries, inspired by his wife’s life work in cancer treatment and research, made of three photograph composites of macro to micro, from trees to cells you might see on a pathology slide.
